We’re recycling batteries now! We’ve partnered with Call2Recycle to be a battery recycling location and it’s simple for you to bring in any used batteries for recycling.
What will we recycle?
All rechargeable and single-use dry cell batteries that are 5kg or less. That means:
- Alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, 6V, 9V, C, D),
- button and coin cell, and
- lithium primary batteries.
We will also take Rechargeable batteries up to 5kg like:
- Lithium ion (Li-ion)
- Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
- Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
- Nickel zinc (Ni-Zn)
- Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb)
What will we not accept?
We will not recycle:
- Damaged, defective or leaking batteries
- Batteries that are part of a recall
- Wet-cell batteries (eg. car batteries)
- No batteries over 5kg
- No e-Mobility batteries or vaping batteries (eg. e-scooters)
How can you prepare your batteries to bring in?
Some batteries will require “terminal protection”. That means you’ll need to protect the terminals or ends with tape. You can only use certain types of tape:
- clear packing tape
- duct tape
- Electrical tape
OR—place single batteries into a clear plastic bag (ziplock or a bag provided at the library), seal, and place in the recycling box. Please see the image below for the batteries that need terminal protection.
