Next week is going to be a fantastic week at the library–we’re doing lots of new things and going back to an old friend–a magic show at the Town Hall! See below for all of the fun:
Monday, July 17
“Nature Scavenger Hunt in the Park” – 10-11am, Ages 6-9 — If the weather is nice, we’re going to enjoy the park behind the library and go on a bit of a treasure hunt. We have lots of volunteers to make sure everyone has a pal to help them find the items on our list, but parents should plan on bringing a chair to sit out and wait for their children during this session. Please dress appropriately—sunscreen, bug spray and a water bottle are a few of the things you might want to make sure your child has on them. Meet us at the front doors of the library and we’ll head out together.
Please register here. *Parents, if your child can’t make it to this event, please be courteous and let us know as soon as possible so we can open up the space to someone else.
Tuesday, July 18
“Crazy Carnival Drop In” – 1:30-3:30pm, All Ages — We’re putting out the fun carnival-inspired activities for this event–be prepared to have fun! Parents, please plan on staying in the library with your child as there will be mostly unsupervised activities.
“DND ‘DM 101 with Luke'” Workshop – 3-4:30pm, Ages 10+ — If you love Dungeons and Dragons and have always wanted to trying DM’ing, now is your chance. Our friend Luke is going to walk us through the challenges and hopefully inspire a few people to try DMing a game with friends or family. Registration is necessary for this program so that we have enough supplies available.
Wednesday, July 19
“Storytime at the Library” – 10am, Ages 2-5 — It’s another fun storytime aimed at kids who like books, songs, and love to laugh. No registration necessary!
“Jurassic Juniors” – 1:30pm, Ages 1-3 — Dinosaur fans will love this fun storytime hybrid aimed at toddlers who know their dinos and still love to act silly. We’ll sing songs, read books and much more. No registration is required! (Don’t worry–for those who have reached out asking for a new time for this event, we’re planning fall programs right now.)
“Transportation Bingo” – 1:30-2:30, All ages — We LOVE bingo and we’re bringing it back again this week with a fun transportation theme. Kids need to be able to read, and parents should plan on staying in the library with their kids although we ask that you sit and enjoy the free wifi and comfy chairs instead of being in the room with us. You’re probably going to hate all the noise anyway…
“Queer Sphere Crafting Circle” – 2-3:30pm, Ages 12-16 – If you are looking for your people and a safe, inclusive space to just create, our new Queer Sphere is perfect for you and friends who might be allies! Stop in with your own craft, or we’ll have one here for you as well–and snacks! It’s a great place to relax, kick back and meet new people!
Thursday, July 20
“T-Shirt Painting” – 10-11am, Ages 10-12 – Participants will have fun making a custom-designed shirt for themselves. Please wear clothes that could get dirty, and bring a clean, plain t-shirt to use (any colour). No painting experience required.
Please register here. Parents, if your child can’t make it to the event after you’ve registered, please let us know so we can offer this space to someone else. Our staff works hard to plan and provide the best programming we can so empty spaces are not only a disappointment, but it means we must reconsider future program events that are a similar style.
Friday, July 21
“Ty the Magic Guy at the Carleton Place Town Hall Auditorium” – 10am, ages 4+ — It’s back–a summer magic show! Join us at the Town Hall at 175 Bridge Street for a fun magical event for the whole family. Kids aged 4 and up are perfect for this funny and surprising show–as long as your child can sit and listen for short periods, this is for them! The Town Hall Auditorium is wheelchair accessible and stroller-friendly from the Mill Street entrance and we’ll ask that everyone please keep in mind that Town staff will be working during the event, so we’ll try to keep noise to a minimum outside of the auditorium. Tickets are available now at the library for $3 each (CASH ONLY), and will be available at the door for $4 each, children and adults (babes in arms are free). We can’t wait for this event of the summer!
“STEM activities Tinkercart Drop In” – 1:30-3:30, all ages–We’re breaking out the Tinkercart and getting ready for a fun afternoon of crafting, building and puzzling. Parents, please plan on staying with your child in the library during this event as it will be mostly self-directed.
