We are opening up more spaces for our Summer Literacy Tutoring!

If you have a child in Kindergarten to Grade 2 who needs a little extra help with their reading skills, our trained Literacy Tutors will work with them one-on-one for a two week session this summer.

No need for teachers to do recommendations for these spaces–they’re open to everyone who thinks their child might benefit from this. The tutors will do an assessment on the first day to see where they can help.

Registration begins today IN PERSON at the Carleton Place Public Library (sorry–we can’t take registrations online or over the phone). Parents will need to fill in a few forms and the $15 fee for the two-week session is required upon registration. You’ll be given choices as to dates and times and our tutors will do their best to accommodate everyone.

Please note: this is for children who really need support over the summer to continue their literacy skills, not for those who are already good readers. We have a fun Summer Reading program that everyone can join, but this program will give readers who are having some difficulties a bit more confidence to keep reading all summer long. Tutors will only be working in English and might be able to include some limited writing skills, but this is mainly a program for reading support.

If you aren’t able to take part in a two-week session, we’ll have fun Flex Friday reading buddy sessions available for everyone throughout the summer.

Please contact Heidi at hsinnett@carletonplace.ca if you have any questions about this program!
